The Inevitability of Accountability and Islamic Teachings in Contemporary Times

Abstract

Accountability is the main pillar of an Islamic ideological state.  It ensures social balance and justice in the society. Accountability maintains check and balance and no country can make the progress without implementing its strict mechanism. Holy Quran and Hadith emphasize the need for the strict accountability with merciless justice to maintain the equality in the social system. The Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) implemented accountability in the true letter and spirit in Madinah and it was adopted by Khulafa-a-Rashidin during their respective regimes. No society can survive without practicing accountability mechanism blended with equality and justice. This study throws light on the necessity of accountability system, in line with sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), which is, unfortunately, not adopted.  The developing countries are using the accountability as a tool to fix and victimize their opponents. Accountability in this current scenario has been discussed in details and a way forward has been suggested respectively.
