A Study of Islamic Thought on the Importance of Hijab

The concept of hijab in Islam does not form any hindrance in the way of progress for Muslim women in the society; it rather constitutes of Fundamental Right to privacy and dignity given by the Qur'an to all the women. The hijab is not a legislation of later theologians and Jurists; it is clearly defined in the Qur'an and honesty practice by the Prophet of Islam and his followers across an Islamic history. The two verses of the Qur'an namely Al-Ahzab: 59, and Al-Nur: 31 are especially important to signify the hijab in the Qur'an. The Constitution of India believes in diversity and multiplicity of religions, cultures and values, and therefore, guarantees the freedom to hijab to every Muslim women living in the country as a citizen.
