Abstract

The article "Seerat Writing in Sindh" highlights the significant contributions of Sindhi scholars to the field of Seerat literature. These scholars have demonstrated a profound commitment to this discipline alongside their work on the Quran and Hadith. Among the pioneers, Imam Abu Mashar Sindhi stands out as a prominent figure. He was a renowned expert in Maghazi (accounts of the Prophet's battles) and a mentor to the famous historian, Imam Waqidi. In the second century Hijri, Imam Abu Mashar authored Kitab al-Maghazi, the first Seerat work by a Sindhi scholar. Unfortunately, this work has been lost over time. Following him, Imam Abu Jafar Debli Sindhi compiled Makatib al-Nabi (PBUH), a groundbreaking collection of letters sent by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to various rulers for dawah purposes. This book still exists in some form today. Afterward, there appears to be a gap in Seerat writing in Sindh until the 12th century Hijri, when Makhdoom Muhammad Hashim Thattvi, a prominent scholar from Thatta, made significant contributions. His Arabic work, Al-Quwwa fi Hawadith Sini al-Nubuwwah, organized Seerat events chronologically and is considered a unique contribution to Islamic literature. Another noteworthy work by him, Al-Safa fi Asma al-Mustafa, documents 1,181 names of the Prophet (PBUH). This article employs a historical methodology, analyzing primary sources and emphasizing the enduring legacy of Sindhi scholars in Seerat literature.
