Abstract

Social media is an easy and advanced way to disseminate information within a second. Muslim communities also use various social media platforms for the dissemination of Quranic verses and Ḥadīth. This paper will explore the role of social media in the dissemination of ḥadīth literature, which are collections of sayings and deeds attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). It will examine how platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have been used to share ḥadīth and the impact this has had on the availability and dissemination of ḥadīth teachings. The study uses mixed method i.e. Qualitative and Quantitative. The data was collected from 60 participants; both male and female through Google forms to study the prevalence. The study concluded the level of awareness among the people of Rawalpindi about the status of ḥadīth and the available resources to verify ḥadīth is not satisfactory. This led to the dissemination of false ḥadīth despite their concern about the false ḥadīth shared on social media platforms. This study encourages the reader, students, and researchers to be vigilant while sharing ḥadīth on social media.
